The Country has reasonable reserve of coking and non coking coal. Almost all the Coking coal reserves of the country are concentrated in an around in Dhanbad. However almost of the coal, whether coking or non coking contains high ash which is not suitable for end user industry unless they are beneficiated. Thus there is an acute shortage of low ash coal in India which is increasing day by day. The users of clean low ash coal either resort to imports at the cost of precious foreign exchange or they have to settle for the high ash indigenous coal. The ever rising demand of imported coal outstrips the indigenous supply, both qualitatively and quantitatively.

The company therefore installed a state-of-the-art coal washery of one million tonne/annum capacity, which has the recognition of Government of India. The modern coal washery has been designed keeping in mind the characteristics of Indian coal particularly that of Jharia coalfield. The fully automatic controls result in sharp separation of the products. The ash could be reduced to desired extent with maximum possible yield of clean coal. For efficient beneficiation of different varieties of coal, jig based technology has been adopted.

The company has supplied washed prime coking coal of 17% ash to SAIL-ISP, Burnpur to their full satisfaction for 8 years.
